Come join the Cornell Club of Los Angeles for a special evening with highly acclaimed screenwriter, author, and former President of the Writers Guild of America, Howard A. Rodman (A&S '71). The evening will begin with an exclusive VIP reception for Cornellians at 6:30 PM, followed by a book conversation featuring Rodman discussing his novels The Great Eastern and Destiny Express, both published by Simon & Schuster.
Rodman currently serves as a Governor and Vice President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He is also a professor of screenwriting at USC School of Cinematic Arts, a member of the National Film Preservation Board, and an artistic director of the Sundance Screenwriting Labs.
His screenwriting credits include Savage Grace, starring Julianne Moore and Eddie Redmayne, which received a Best Screenplay nomination at the 2009 Spirit Awards, as well as August, starring Josh Hartnett and David Bowie. Rodman also wrote multiple episodes of the Fallen Angels series on Showtime and most recently served as a staff writer on the The Idol for director Sam Levinson and co-creator The Weeknd.
In recognition of his artistic contributions, Rodman was appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Republic in 2013 and was promoted to Officier in 2023. In 2020, he received USC’s Associates Award for Artistic Achievement, the university’s highest artistic honor, as well as the Walter Wolf Award for his advocacy of free speech and academic freedom.
